The Worst Drinks for Your Teeth

Posted on 3/23/2015 by Na Xu
Wine can affect your oral health and stain your teeth.Following up on the heels of our last blog post about healthy foods for your teeth, it is no surprise that certain beverages can negatively affect your oral health. Soda, for example, has long been known to cause tooth decay thanks to the effect its high acidity have upon tooth enamel. Other drinks, like coffee, have been shown to have a dramatic effect on the color of your teeth: coffee is one of the most common causes behind yellow teeth staining.

Other beverages, however, might surprise you with the amount of damage they can do to your teeth. White wine, for example, affects your teeth in the same way that red wine does with regard to staining, and is even worse for your teeth because the acidity in white wine is higher than in red. Tea is another troublesome drink that affects the health of your teeth and their appearance. The biggest issues arise from black tea, which can cause serious and noticeable stains thanks to its tannins content. Herbal, green, and white teas are all better for your smile than black tea, although none of them are particularly recommended when it comes to maintaining your oral health.
