Have You Ever Heard of Internal Teeth Bleaching?

Posted on 3/23/2016 by Na Xu
A woman happy with her newly internally bleached teeth! There are a variety of reasons that your teeth might suddenly be looking yellow and dingy. Perhaps you are a smoker or have a heavy coffee drinking habit, or maybe you just haven't made dental hygiene a priority in your life.

In other cases, past dental work and problems may have left your teeth discolored, and you may be interested in getting a whiter smile through teeth bleaching. However, have you ever heard of internal bleaching?

Internal Tooth Bleaching Basics

Internal tooth bleaching is a different process than whitening the outside of the tooth. This is because the process takes place from inside of the tooth. Despite the ease of the procedure, many people aren't aware that they could bleach the teeth from the inside out, causing them to remove years of stains.

Internal tooth bleaching usually takes place either during a root canal or after the procedure. If your tooth is in need of a root canal, your dentist will remove the dying tissues from the pulp chamber in order to prepare the tooth for a temporary filling or a crown.

Then, a bleaching agent will be deposited into the tooth to alter the color of the tooth from the inside. This solution will stay inside of the tooth for several weeks in order to get the best results.

If you've had a prior root canal and your tooth has been discolored, the treatment process will be different. Typically, your dentist will only need to drill a tiny access hole into the tooth, and then a cotton pellet that has been soaked with the bleach will be put inside.

The pellet then remains in place for a couple of weeks before being removed. To maximize your results, you may also take bleaching trays home in order to further encourage whitening.
