Until you can get seen, here are a few of the most common mistakes that people tend to make when flossing. Maybe you can recognize your mistake and correct it before you go in to see your dentist.
Do You Make Any of These Flossing Mistakes?Only going between each tooth gap a single time, is likely the biggest mistake people make when they floss. If you only go into each gap once, you are missing a good portion of the debris and plaque that gets stuck in there. You need to go into each gap twice, cleaning off each tooth while between those two teeth.
Some people use far too little floss. You need to go into each gap twice when flossing, and ideally, you want a clean section of floss for each swipe. Go into the gap once, swipe away the debris as you take the floss out.
Then, go into that gap again with a new section of floss. That way, you leave the bacteria and plaque on the old section of floss instead of spreading it around.
Rushing through flossing is the other mistake most people make when it comes to flossing. It isn't going to take you one minute to do, but it doesn't have to take you a half-hour either. Go through and floss each gap twice.
Once you get into a rhythm, you should be in and out in about ten minutes. For any extra information, contact our office today. They can help show you any place you might miss and how to improve your technique.
